I download BeOS R5 Personal Edition and installed in Vista it but it wont boot unless it finds a boot floppy. Obviouly, my iMac has no floppy drive. Has anyone installed BeOS this way under Vista or XP in Parallels? Any trick for bypassing the boot floppy requirement? I just felt really nostalgic tonight for 1999

Lance Le Claire l...@videotron.ca microsoft public windows vista general Did you install Vista with XP drive installed and plugged into motherboard? If yes, then use Vista boot Pro. Install it in XP. (you won't need it after you install the Vista boot). IF NO, then you need to choose your boot options in your bios.

If I delete the C partition, my XP parition, will my Vista partition suddenly decide that it's the C partition and not the F partition--which I think it ought to be, but won't that mess up some apps or something? Or will C just remain weirdly empty? "John Barnes" wrote: If you are not using the XP partition,

If you can't wait for XP SP3 (assuming that SP3 fixes it), this will do it.... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926185 The only side effect that I can see is that - when in XP - you won't be able to access any files stored on the Vista partition. What you can't do is boot the Vista install disk and run setup outside of XP, you must have a working installation to start from within. I currently have XP installed however it seems to be a corrupted install as software, ie Internet Explorer, downloaded software, etc, gets uninstalled and won't work everytime

I have never had to use system restore in XP. Vista wins here too. Click on the Start orb. Type system restore and press enter. Once System Restore is open the UI is much more intuitive. So the DVD isn't necessary? Same as XP. If Windows won't boot then you can do a system restore while booted from the repair

I used to have a dual-boot PC and for games that don't depend on registry settings, I often ran those from same directory in each OS separately. I set the disk from IDE to AHCI in BIOS and the computer booted from my other IDE drive that had an older version of XP Home. The XP desktop loaded before I got the Vista won't even load before it automatically reboots. Can't boot from the Vista DVD because it finishes loading files, then the BSoD, and reboots.

As said, the key point is: they all load the boot sector of the active partition. So when you install xp after vista, the key point is to restore the boot sector. If you don't, you can write all the MBRs you want, they won't fix your problem. No one has said that only the MBR had to be changed to "fix your problem"
